Your face never leaves your phone.

Last updated: October 2026 · Selo Studio

SKINCL·IMATE is an iPhone app. It does its work on your phone, keeps what it reads on your phone, and has no account and no server of its own. This page covers the app and this website, including the waitlist.

1The app

Photos

The skin reading happens entirely on your iPhone. Every capture is saved on your phone so the Log can show you your skin over time. Each photo (and a small thumbnail of it) is encrypted before it is written (AES-GCM), with a key kept in the iOS Keychain on this device only. Photos are excluded from iCloud backup and the app never uploads them — not to us, not to anyone. If you choose Save or Share on a selfie, that copy goes where you send it: your Photos library (which syncs to iCloud Photos if you use it) or the app you share to.

The numbers read from each photo (the skin signals, the day's climate state and the time) are stored on your phone next to it. They are not uploaded either.

Location

The app uses your location (coordinates) to look up the local weather. The coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo, an open weather service that needs no account, for the forecast and air quality. To show the name of your city, iOS's built-in geocoder (Apple) is used. Your location is never sent to us.

Apple Health

Only if you connect it, the app reads — and never writes — these Apple Health data: sleep, heart rate variability (HRV), menstrual cycle, steps, time in daylight and workouts. This data is used on your phone to personalise your reading and never leaves it.

Check-ins and scores

Check-ins, scores and insights are stored on your phone and are never uploaded by the app. There is no account and no third-party analytics.

The only way your data leaves the phone

Apart from the weather lookups above, data leaves your phone only if you export it yourself, or when you save or share a selfie yourself. The app can create CSV files of your readings, which you send wherever you choose through the iOS share sheet. Photos are not part of those files.

Deleting it

Because nothing is held anywhere else, there is no way for us to recover deleted data.

2This website and the waitlist

The waitlist form asks for your city, name and email. When you submit it, these go through this website's server function to Beehiiv, the email service we use to run the waitlist, and are stored there. We use them to email you about the launch and to understand which cities people are waiting in.

The live city readings on the home page are fetched from Open-Meteo for fixed city coordinates — not your location. The site is hosted on Vercel and loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so like any website those services receive your browser's standard request information (such as your IP address). The site uses no cookies or analytics of its own.

We don't sell your data, show ads, or share it with anyone else.

3For users in Korea (PIPA)

A summary under Korea's Personal Information Protection Act for the personal information we collect through the website waitlist. (The app itself sends us no personal information.)
